Work of progress - Beach Memory

Being a Florida girl, I have the almost unfair advantage to go home whenever I want or whenever I need some beach time. The most recent trip found us installing vinyl tile at my mom's beach townhouse that we are helping her fix up, but that is another story all together! After spending a grueling two and a half days working inside the townhouse, my husband and I finally made time for the beach even though the sun was practically set. As we sat on the sand that evening and breathed in the scenery, thankful to have taken a break from all the work, we began to notice that the sky was forming into something magical. The word 'Beautiful' doesn't quite illustrate what we were seeing with our eyes. As the sunset developed, we were greeted with flowing pinks and blues that almost appeared purple.

I knew this was a special sunset, atypical of what we are accustomed to viewing in Atlanta (when we ever do get to see the sunset together in the midst of our busy schedules) and had to take a snap shot. I had planned on creating a large beach inspired piece for my mom's townhouse and knew this would be the perfect inspiration. A couple of weeks later, I decided to put down the first few strokes which then turned into hours of my perfectionism trying to capture the image as best I could. Once satisfied (temporarily) I decided to step back and take a break. There are still plenty of additions to make and details to incorporate but I feel like this piece is at least moving in the right direction.

**UPDATE** This past Friday the lovely Governor of Georgia declared a 'state of emergency' after seeing that we may receive an inch or two of snow, which in turn led to a day off from work. I was finally able to sit down and finish this beach beauty. I usually don't like to show the process or the unfinished product so this was new for me. I think I'll continue to post work(s)-in-progress to update and show pieces I'm working on before posting a finished product every few months or so. I tend to start things, update them weeks (or months!) later, then start other things--so I think it will be nice to show my progress through this blog. On a side note, I did start this painting back in August and it took close to 4 months to finish in the midst of the Holidays and traveling three or four times! Hope you enjoyed!
